It was bound to happen I guess. I just didn't think it would be so full on. I have read alot about how the band can 'feel' tight and I have read alot about the bandster 'portions' so I really thought I was prepared for everything.... *duh dum* .... no I wasn't!

I wasn't prepared for the uncomfortableness it now is to eat. I was not prepared for how hard eating in a social setting would be. I wasn't prepared for how easy it is to revert to bad habits when these things happen.

Its not all doom and gloom though. I have lost 10 kilograms. Awesome!

Christmas dinner - The food was fabulous - I was going along well - tiny plate, lots of chewing, small bites....but I had hit some trouble with a baked carrot.... it wasn't pleasant and I am not sure why really but I got so upset that I just couldn't eat my lunch with everyone else. That was the first time I have really resented Portia.

I had a run of getting stuck and PBing once everyday for 4 days. I was hating it! The past 2 days have been really good (no PBs) but I am not exactly eating as good as I should be. The plan is to get back on track.

I am home with the kids for a couple of weeks, they are running me ragged!! But it is so much fun to be with them - hence less posting.

I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday and happy new year to all. 2011 is going to be awesome for me and I hope it will for you all too!!

  1. I'm sorry you are having so many problems. It does get easier. I do know I have to really think about what I'll eat when out. In fact I avoid fast food joints because there isn't much I can eat. Unless it's fries (sometimes). One of my worst stuck episodes was on a carrot. I can eat them cooked but most raw veges I avoid. I think some of our discomfort is that we are having to give up the large quantity of food we used to eat when out. Now an appetizer does me, although I sorely would like to eat the bigger meals (like pasta, and steak). But you hit the nail on the head when you said "I did lose 10 kg". That is awesome. We just have to get the brain to accept it.

  2. Me too - I found out yesterday that I cannot eat raw carrots - very painful experience :(

Congrats on loosing 10 KG !

But isn't it wonderful to eat such small portions and to be satisfied - I am loving the experience.

Happy New Year to you too

  3. it is part of the learning experience but you will get the hang of it....just slow down more, chew more and eat even less and you will soon get to have bits of all of those things again. The great news is that this is all part of the process to becoming skinny :)

  4. My dietitian warned me that carrots would be off limits, especially raw.

You are doing great, and will get the hang of it. 10kg is awesome!

I swear my band must be so loose. I cruised through Christmas functions without any drama's. I was so nervous, but it seems I can eat anything...

  5. I got banded almost exactly 6 months ago and I think I've just really figured it out. Honestly.

I am now in a place where I don't worry about social situations at all. I do push my food around sometimes to make it look like I've eaten more so that people won't ask questions. I am pretty comfortable with what I can and can't eat. Though, I'm also in a place where I'm reintroducing foods I've been completely avoiding (I had rice for the first time at dinner tonight)

Just give yourself some time and I promise it'll get easier. You got banded just as we were going into all the holidays so there have been all kinds of things going on and less space for you to figure it all out.

At least for me, it really did take time to figure it out. I really do have to eat slowly. And way more slowly than I would have initially thought. And I do have to really think about what I'm eating and whether I think it might be an okay thing for the band. (I just learned from your blog - that raw carrots are a no no).

My rambling point here is though... cut yourself some slack. You went into this at a hard time of year for it - but you've done it and you've already lost 10kg - That's just fantastic!!! It's only going to get easier from here.
